Roti Telur from Pinang Asian Cuisine - $5.00

218 Louviers Drive, Newark, DE - 302.368.2298

Roti Telur is a traditional Indian pancake filled with egg, onion, served with curry chicken and potato dipping sauce.

I like the eggy bread, but there's too much onion for my tastes. The dip is good too, but with the flimsy eggy bread, it's hard to grab any dip without it falling off. This was an interesting venture, but I don't believe I'll be ordering this one again.

Haha that actually looks quite right, i mean the roti telur. Except in Malaysia it costs US$0.45. It's just dough, oil and an egg if you think about it. Regular roti canai (no ingredients just the bread itself, eaten with curry) costs about US$0.17-0.20.

You mentioned it had onions, that means it's a Roti Telur Bawang (egg & onion). The onions should be diced yeah?

Roti means "bread" which is more accurate than saying it's pancakes. For one it's not "fluffy", since to make roti canai you take a ball of dough and spread it out REALLLY thin before folding it all into its circular (in your case square) shape. If you've ever had chappati, naan or thosai, these would be in the same category (Indian Bread, for lack of a better description).

It's like calling durians custard. Or uhh... saying Risotto is "fried rice". Same ingredients but 2 different things.

yea, the onions were diced. i was thinking of a more eggy version of naan as a comparison also. i think those breads are referred to as flatbread or pita bread.

and that's so unfair!! 45 cents?!? the only thing i can get for that much is a pack of gum... possibly used.

Consider it payment for a Malaysian flying over to America with the arcane knowledge of flipping dough into a flaky snack.
