Beef Tenderloin with Bamboo Shoots from Lao Sze Chuan - $???

1331 West Ogden Avenue, Downers Grove, IL - 630.663.0303

The picture really makes this look more appetizing than it actually was. Not to say that the dish wasn't good, but all the oils made it lack any interesting flavors. It tasted just like what it was - beef and bamboo.

The appeal of this dish lies with its texture - juicy, tender beef chunks with softened, ever-so-slightly crunchy bamboo shoots. Drool...

Was that supposed to be eaten on its own? I think it should've gone with some rice. Or at least noodles or fried rice... at least something.

And oil is almost the primary ingredient with most chinese cooking, I've come to realize. It's almost like ordering Fried Oil with vegetables or Fried Oil with sliced beef.

Apparently (don't quote me on this), it's cos the food glistens with more oil, and that apparently makes it prettier when served.

hm... i always thought the oil was there to help it slide through my colon so i can fit more food in later.

but i ordered several other dishes alongside this one. i know i had rice with it, but not sure if it came with this dish in particular or another one that i had ordered.
